Surface Profile
The proper and effective preparation of a surface prior to coating is essential. Making sure that the correct roughness – or profile – has been generated is essential. If the profile is too low, the adhesion of the coating to the surface will be reduced. Too high and there is the danger that the profile peaks will remain uncoated or pop through the wet coating– allowing rust spots to occur.
PosiTector RTR (Replica Tape Reader)
PosiTector RTR Replica Tape Reader - Digital spring micrometer measures and records peak to valley surface profile height using replica tape. The PosiTector RTR ADV will hold 100,000 in up to 1000 groups. This is a great way to record and report surface profile data.
PosiTector SPG (Surface Profile Gauge)
The PosiTector SPG Surface Profile Gage measures and records peak to valley surface profile heights. Conforms to ASTM D4417-B, SSPC-PA17, AS 3894.5-C (with optional 30° tip angle), U.S. Navy NSI 009-32, SANS 5772 and others.
Our ADV gauges all have data logging capacity for 100,000 in up to 1000 groups.

Testex Replica Tape
Can be used in accordance with:

ASTM D 4417 – C
Whereas comparators allow the estimation of surface roughness, by both touch and sight, the Testex Tape allows the user to measure the peak-to-valley height of the profile and record it. Testex Tape consists of foam with a non-compressible backing. The foam side is rubbed into the surface providing a permanent mould of the profile. The Thickness Gauge is then used to measure the peak-to-valley height of a surface profile formed in Testex Tape. The Testex Tape range is available in two profile ranges. It is important that the tape grade chosen is reflective of the profile under measurement.
